Miscellany
There are currently no vacancies for permanent staff, but we are always interested in hearing from people who want to work with us either as associates or interns.
NPI has an ambitious programme of work in prospect, and while the core competencies needed to deliver it exist in-house, we are always keen to work with other people who share our interests and perspectives and have relevant expertise. Until recently, most of our associates have tended to have a long term relationship with NPI. Following a review, however, we have now decided to extend the category to include people who may only wish to work with us on just one project.
The starting point is the list of project areas which we expect to be working on during the next twelve months. This list will be updated on a regular basis. If any of these are projects where you have relevant expertise and something to contribute, we would be pleased to hear from you. Although associates are likely to have a strong academic background, they do not have to be employed within academia. Wisdom, rigour and an unshakeable belief that the way things are now is not how they have to be - these are the characteristics that matter most to us.
Anyone interested in contributing as an associate is invited to write to us (email to angi.driver@npi.org.uk) explaining which project or area of work you are interested in, why, where your expertise or insight in the subject comes from, and how you think you might be able to contribute. Please also attach a short CV.
At the moment, there is no firm cut-off date for submitting such an expression of interest but it would be helpful if we could receive it no later than 15 February 2008.
Our internship programme runs all year round and we are now open for applications for the period up to and including summer 2008. Applications should be sent, via email, to angi.driver@npi.org.uk
The programme is mainly aimed at recent graduates, graduate students and undergraduates, preferably in their final years. They usually last for four to six weeks, although outside vacations they can be longer, on a part-time basis. The positions are voluntary, though expenses are reimbursed. A paid extension to an internship is sometimes a possibility.
Interns act as research assistants, reporting to an experienced researcher or director. All of our interns will be given the opportunity to author a short, stand-alone piece of work which will be published on our website. The topics will vary, but we would refer you to the list of project areas which we expect to be working on during 2008; however, unlike associates, we do not require interns to have a track-record in the areas in question.
Applicants from any academic discipline are welcome, although we are always particularly keen to hear from social scientists and economists. Successful applicants will need to demonstrate an outstanding academic background, and a genuine interest in politics and social issues.
As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applicants from all races, both sexes, people with disabilities, lesbians and gay men, people of all ages and of all religious beliefs.
