Projects
European poverty and social exclusion
Building on our UK work on poverty and social exclusion, we have undertaken a number of related projects in a European setting.
Council of Europe
We helped the Council of Europe to prepare a handbook on poverty and social exclusion indicators which governments, researchers and others can use to help them decide how to monitor changes in the extent of poverty and social exclusion.
This handbook is currently not publicly available.
Ireland
We helped the Irish Government, in the form of the Combat Poverty Agency and National Anti-Poverty Unit, to develop their thinking on poverty and social exclusion indicators, with the aim of helping them to decide which indicators to use to monitor progress on their recently developed National Anti-Poverty Strategy. The end product was a handbook setting out both a methodology for selecting indicators and a discussion about what indicators might be most applicable in their particular circumstances.

We subsequently advised them in more detail on the specific subjects of youth substance mis-use and crime.
