April's welfare changes - the cumulative impacts
With cuts to various benefits starting to hit and other major welfare changes looming, 2013 marks a particularly pivotal moment in the history of the welfare state. As such, the 2013 Crisis Conference: ‘The Great Welfare Debate’, held last week, provided a timely opportunity to participate in the some of the key debates on welfare. As part of the conference, Director of the New Policy Institute, Dr Peter Kenway, convened a seminar on the cumulative impacts of welfare reform. The seminar presented the key reforms introduced this April and the cumulative impacts of these, questioning the efficacy of the reforms and pointing towards possible alternatives. Below is our presentation from the seminar in question.
